"The Great Gatsby" Symbolism

In the novel "The Great Gatsby", F. Scott Fitzgerald gives us different symbols related to Gatsby's life which help us understanding small details in the novel. One of the symbols is the photograph that Gatsby carries with him all the time. The photograph is half of a dozen men in blazers, all together. Gatsby explains that this picture is a souvenir of Oxford days, where he "suppose" studied. This picture symbolize how Gatsby need to prove what he says, because most of the time he lies about his past. With the picture, we can realize that he needs people to believe his lies, and he could even take a moment to invent a souvenir, that represents and proves what he says.
